Working From Home Typing As A Virtual Assistant

One of the fastest growing industries in the UK is for virtual assistants. If you have never heard of the term it basically means that you do work similar to that of a secretary or personal assistant except you do it from home.

So why is there such a demand for virtual assistants? It basically means that a small business can cut their costs by not having to employ a person full time. Many self employed people and small businesses in the UK can not afford a secretary and so a virtual assistant can do the work they need as and when they need it doing. No worries for them about employment law, hiring staff, training and all the rest of the time consuming and expensive red tape.

Work from home as a virtual assistant

It sounds like a very flash title but in reality there are mums working from home typing and looking after young children also being able to work for many other people and get paid reasonably well for it. Most of the contact is usually over the internet or the phone if needed so it allows you to pretty mum do the work around your home life. In fact the employers would not even know you were typing their letter in your pyjamas.

So how exactly do you become a V.A.? There are several routes, there are now many employment agencies online that match up people like you willing to do office type work for small businesses and one man bands who do not have the time to do the paperwork themselves but cannot justify taking on a full time employee.

Now that everything is done on computers these days it really does not matter where you do the work from as you can just email information in seconds. An agency will put you in touch with potential employers. The benefit of this is that it is easier to start of finding clients, the downside is that the agency usually takes a cut of your earnings for this service.

Your second option is to sell your services locally. Whilst this may initially take more time and work to get started there are many benefits to putting in the groundwork yourself. With an agency wages are often driven down due to the competition, if you look for work in your local area you will have less competition and can build up a higher paying base of clients.
